Souvenirs

Back to reality with a vengeance today. Heating and hot water didn’t come on this morning, empty shelves in M&S when we went food shopping and some sort of seal in the tumble dryer ended up in the drum with the clothes. Eventually got the heating and water working and the tumble dryer seems to be still operational at the moment, though I sense its days may be numbered. Lack of staff to stock shelves was the problem in Marks - it’s all well and good trying to save on staff costs, but if you’re losing sales as a result, it’s a bit of a false economy.
Could have done without all these problems as I’m still feeling fairly grotty. I just about got through last night’s gig and was looking forward to a day of rest today. Oh well, maybe tomorrow!
The one pleasurable thing was unpacking our souvenirs. A hand made Christmas tree bauble and a small hand made bowl from Sorrento, along with the bracelet from Capri, feature the lemons closely associated with the region.
What I didn’t know before we went, was that Sorrento is also renowned for its marquetry. We visited several little shops, all of whom made their wares on site or very close by. So much to choose from and everything was so beautifully finished. We eventually chose this panel which depicts the view of Vesuvius from Sorrento. It will look great on our “holidays” wall in the kitchen, where we display mementos of our trips.
Hopefully, tomorrow will be less problematical. I shall certainly be chasing up the plumber regarding the overdue boiler service, and it wouldn’t hurt to start looking on sites like FB Marketplace for a replacement tumble dryer. But all I really want to do is just go to the travel agent and book another holiday to Italy…
