Duncow windmill stump

Back blip,
Start of of journey home. Had a good breakfast , a full Scottish otherwise you have to pay a £2.50 supplement. We had a window seat so it was nice to watch the sun come up above the trees. We had thought about going for a walk to the Hermitage , a folly in Crow Wood , where Robert Burns used sit and write. He used a diamond pointed pen to write a short poem on one on the panes of glass. It would have been just a short walk from Ellisland where he lived for several years with his wife.
This stump of a windmill was spotted as we headed north. It’s 17th/18th century , 30ft high , with two doors, one filled in now and made of red stone. Behind you can see an impressive house , Castle Hill House which is up for sale. An impressive Georgian house with several outbuildings and a gate lodge. The field on the right is called Gallas moor shown on an old map as Gallows Moor so likely to have been a place of hangings in the past.
We continued our journey stopping at Loch Leven. The sun was out but it was blowing a gale. We walked down to one of the hides and sat for a while enjoying the view. Lots of swans on the water with goldfinches on a nearby feeder.
We headed for The Larder after and had our lunch, a really tasty soup and broccoli quiche with salad from the farm.
A sunny evening , filled up with petrol ready for the rest of the journey tomorrow.
