A view from St Swithin

San Diego

We’d an uneventful journey to San Diego - about 2.5 hours on busy roads. I’m not going to miss driving here: some of the freeways are very busy with folk taking no heed of speed limits and of course undertaking as well as overtaking. We dropped the car off at the rental desk (1300miles done ) then Ubered into the city centre. We walked through the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter which has some grand buildings built during the boom time of the area in the 1880s. By the early 19thC the area was notorious for gambling, drinking and prostitution. These days it’s all bars and restaurants (all very quiet on a Monday afternoon).
The main blip was originally a bank, then an oyster bar. In later years the upper floor housed a brothel. The extra is the Yuma building which again housed a brothel in years gone by. It’s now offices and a rather grand townhouse.
