Mr hazelh's 60th birthday

Mr hazelh wanted to wake up on his 60th birthday at Baile-na-Cille. Today his wish was granted.

His birthday celebrations proper* started with opening his cards (main blip) and presents in bed (extra**).

Then followed a car trip to two destinations. First we visited the Callanish standing stones. We had them to ourselves for most of the time that we were there. Then we stopped at Bosta beach for a walk along the shoreline, and up to the jelly bean house and Viking watermill. Here we also spent quite a long time attempting to dam a stream with big clumps of seaweed. We wanted to see if we could divert the water to a different route down to the sea. Our efforts were partially successful.

Back at The Hayloft we started a game of Scrabble. We didn't quite manage to finish it before it was time to dress for Mr hazelh's posh birthday dinner.

Richard kindly drove us up the road to the Uig Sands restaurant, recently voted the best place in the UK for a 'date night' meal. This treat was Mr hazelh's family's birthday present to him. A generous cheque from his step-mother paid for a lovely bottle of wine. The meal was wonderful. We both had chowder as our starter and chocolate parfaits for pudding. Mr hazelh's main course was cod, and mine scallops. Richard played taxi again to bring us home at the end of Mr hazelh's very happy birthday.

*After his surprise party last Friday, and the mention on last night's Stereo Underground when Richard Latto played 'She's in parties' by Bauhaus for him (1 hour, 20 minutes, and 15 seconds into the programme, if you'd like to listen to it on BBC Sounds).

**Here he is opening my present to him. It had the pair of us in gales of laughter. I may blip it at some point.

Exercise today: small amount of walking.
