"Nearer, My God, to Thee"

Colne Cemetery on a murky day.

Wallace Hartley is buried here. He died on the 15th April 1912 and was buried on the 18th of May. Around 40,000 people lined the route of the funeral procession.

Wallace, who was born in Colne, was the band leader on RMS Titanic (Royal Mail Ship) but the inscription on his grave refers to S.S Titanic ( steam ship).

The grave is at the bottom of the cemetery. A short walk down and a longer steeper climb back up.
