Theatre Royal Drury Lane
Today I went to the Covent Garden area in London to meet friends and we did a tour of the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The theatre is one of the oldest in the world…about the third on this site as previous ones burnt down! It was purchased by Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2000 and was given a £60 million facelift in 2019 before reopening in 2021. The interior is stunning, great architecture and it was a great tour very informative, the guide was an actor and very amusing. See extra of the main rotunda, now a bar, with statues of Shakespeare among others. The three of us had the guide to ourselves which was unexpected..no others had booked! The refurbishment and paintings are all lovely but I don’t think I will be going to see the current production…the musical ‘Frozen’ !
We had lunch at the Real Greek restaurant and I had a wander around the Covent Garden market which was very very busy.
