The Foliage Colors Are Peaking in Sproul!
With two days of excellent weather on tap, my husband and I packed up our gear and headed for Sproul State Forest, to a campsite that we informally call Pine Glen. It's a short walk from the car to a quiet spot in the woods where we like to pitch our tents, listen to music, and spend the night.
One of the times we were there in springtime, they set fire to the woods while we were in them, which - I can assure you - is no picnic. But this time, things were pretty calm. We did not see any actual people during our backwoods adventure. No fire. No smoke. Hooray!
We did, however, hear the howling of coyotes around dusk, much, much too close to our campsite. Yes, one time that we were there, we listened to a whole group of them try to take an elk down, about 100 feet away from where we tented. This time, however, they merely howled a bit here and there, and occasionally overnight. They never came any closer, thank goodness. Just in case, I put a whistle in my pocket!
The wonderful news from our travels is this: the foliage colors are peaking in central Pennsylvania, and here's a shot from Sproul. Actually, route 144 through Sproul is like candyland. There are oranges and yellows and reds, and when the sunlight hits it, it looks just like some rainbow version of Heaven.
This is a photo of a side road just off route 144 that we drive in on, and from here, we park our car and walk back into the pines. Isn't it gorgeous? We admitted to each other that we may never have seen such glorious colors there. So we encourage everyone to go - GO AND SEE! The colors are HERE!
It is our custom to put our tunes box on and listen to music when we spend time in the wilds. And on this evening, we listened to six hours - yes, six! - of a combination of GTR and Pat Benatar. So my soundtrack song is from that set. Here's GTR with When the Heart Rules the Mind. Now, GO! Go and see the colors!
