Ear fungus

Two dog walks and reading today.

The morning was raining on and off.   It eased in the afternoon.

Noticed these ear fungi on dead elder wood.  They have different textures outside and inside.  The exterior is smooth and the inside velvety.  They sprout remarkably quickly.
