From Coast to Above

The four of us set out to follow an Adventure Lab Trail. It  started at the beach along the way, went via Ladies Walk to the Canal, over the bridge and up to Hythe High Street - detour to Costa of course - then the Old Post Office and the Town Hall before heading up the steep hill to St Leonard’s Church. Ella was great at answering the questions and showing us where to go next. Good fun and we all learnt a lot.

The ancient parish church of Hythe, St Leonard’s, has overlooked the old port of Hythe, and now the Hythe itself, for nearly a thousand years. It is impressive but everyone complains about the hill! It is known as ‘the church with the bones’ on account of its famous ossuary containing a large collection of human bones. This doesn’t seem to be open for visits much, not that I have really tried very hard. Climbing a steep hill in order to view a lot of bones is not my idea of fun.

Mum came in the early evening to take the girls back home and they said goodbye to the apartment. We have had a good last couple of family days here. I think the girls will have happy memories of time they have spent here.
