Sooty and steam
What a change in the weather.
Our last day in Norfolk and the sun was shining.
We had a very enjoyable meal last night and managed a dish of mussels with soda bread and chips. Along with a glass of wine.
This morning we woke up to sunshine.
After another huge breakfast we drive to Sheringham Park and walked through the woods to Weybourne station. Just in time to see a steam train leaving for Sheringham.
We enjoyed a coffee sat chatting to several people who were also waiting for the train to return, heading for Holt. This time with the engine pulling the train, right way round.
We also went to look at the huge engine Black Prince, A class 9F engine built in 1959. It was being cleaned to get it ready for a special weekend starting tomorrow.
I couldn’t help but smile when I saw a boy/ young man coming towards us. He just reminded me of Tom, the chimney sweep boy in the book The Water Babies.
I asked if I could take his photo and he said “ of course”. I have included him in the collage along with a photo of The Black Prince, and photos of the other train 53809 leaving the station.
We enjoyed the rest of the walk back to the car. Will certainly do it again. I have put a collage on extras showing photos of the wood, fungi, a rhododendron in flower, and one of the thousands of sweet chestnuts which were falling all over the place.
It was then on to Sheringham and a walk through the town and down to the beach.
It was nice to see the town buzzing.
Just an ice cream to cool us down as it was quite warm in the sunshine.I had a jumper on but no coat.
Quite a few people in the sea. ( see extra photo)
Back to our B&B for a rest before going to The Moorings in Blakeney for our evening meal, being careful not to park on the Quayside as it was a very high tide. We had been warned!
It is one of our favourite places and our meal was superb as always.
Fish soup with rouille, cheese & croutons.
Duck breast, fig mostarda, kale & garlic, marmalade sauce green beans and dauphinois potatoes.
To share we had a most delicious and light ginger sponge pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream.
The restaurant has been run for 25 years by husband and wife Richard and Angela Long who come from Huddersfield. We have been coming since the first year they opened.
However we were very sad to find out that Richard passed away last year, but were very pleased to hear that his wife is now continuing with help from their daughters and also his sister who served us tonight. She came originally from Slaithwaite.
The standard was certainly as good.
Now back and are having an early night once the rugby has finished!
