Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Archie and I took a wander down town, just for a change. JR was heading in to JL to get stuff she needed. We ended up in the Grassmarket, where the Saturday market was in full swing. Some of the foodie smells were tempting...

We sat down on a spare bench just to watch, and a woman sat down with us. She had a bought a delicious looking (and smelling) meal. I asked what it was. Ethiopian, apparently. I was tempted to go and get some... She lives in Egypt at present, teaching English and learning Arabic. I was pleased to be able to tell her I'd been to see the Pyramids.

We had a good chat about the state of the world. She's in Scotland for a meeting of NGOs in Glasgow tomorrow, but has a day in Edinburgh. She asked what things she should see. I'm always stumped when people ask me to recommend what to see... I can't think of anything. I told her just to wander around. She was going to the castle, which is very expensive ($40!!) which  I suppose is a 'must'.

We came up the Vennel Steps, slowly. And back across the Meadows, calling in at Cafe Nero (Tom Waits warbling very quietly on the sound system) for a wee rest.

I spent the afternoon checking out YouTube videos on 'Tips and Tricks' on the iPhone15 Pro Max. Totally amazing!

This shot is down one of the many wee closes in the Mile, but this one is lit up a bit.
