Stinking Iris .....

.... so called because some people find the smell of its leaves unpleasant when crushed or bruised, a smell that has been described as beefy.

The brightly coloured seeds are the highlight of this plant and provide tasty snacks for blackbirds. They last through the winter and provide a welcome splash of colour.

There are a couple of these plants growing beside the parterre beside Pollok House.
