I Don't Give A Flying F
...let's just use the polite wording and say fudge! Today was not a good day. I won't go into detail but it involved behaviour from a family member that we've had to put up with for more years than I can sometimes bear to think about which is exasperating, wearying, draining, depressing, anger inducing and sometimes just plain upsetting. The intervention of a friend only made matters worse and left me feeling both irate and dispirited. So when I came across this dust covered card it summed up exactly what I felt like screaming at the top of lungs in pure frustration...only not the polite version!
The only way I could even slightly taken my mind off it all was to find out more about the artwork on the card. It's actually by a Belgian artist called Sammy Slabbinck (another great name!). He's been compared to Magritte and Dahli with a hint of Monty Python thrown in.
He renders dynamic original paper collages, illustrations, videos and prints combining found imagery - mostly using images cut out from 1970's magazines - with contemporary, compositional styles playing with exaggeration, scale, proportions and colour.
My apologies for the first part of this blip being a bit of a doom fest but I just needed to get it off my chest. Tomorrow is another day....
