Mother of pearl clouds
This morning the northeast saw this unusual phenomenon. Nacreous clouds are polar stratospheric clouds of ice crystals which refract light. They form at very low temperatures in the atmosphere about 50,000-80,000 feet up where there is little moisture so clouds at this height are very rare. Quite fitting for the shortest day. Apparently they were also seen in Edinburgh yesterday.
Ailie and I had a walk into the teeth of the gale on the moor. We could barely hear each other! It was nice to catch up.
I had intended to call on Chris tomorrow at 11 but I’ve had a message to say the plastic surgery unit will phone me then re the skin cancer. So I walked over with her present in case I don’t have time later but she was out. (She never reads her messages!)
