Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

Today we were going out for our special Christmas lunch with Hazel. Booked it ages ago, one of the top restaurants in town, has been for years - The Witchery. We'd all been years ago.

I took Archie out to the Links in the morning, while JR went to the gyms. It was a nice sunny day, I had expected wind and rain, so that was nice. Archie stayed at home - he's fine for a few hours with his bed and his peanut butter treat.

It's a gorgeous restaurant - dark panelling, flickering candles, sumptuous red leather seating, twinkling Christmas lights. The next table’s white cloth had just been removed and the items were placed on the sofa for a few moments - this was not the decor!

Best of all - unobtrusive Christmassy music! Everything was lovely, though I chose the wrong thing. The others chose lemon sole, and it was size of the whole plate! The fruity tart tatin for pudding was epic, though the teensy tiny jug of custard could have been bigger! I could have had ten of them.

It was lovely when we came out - dark skies, bagpipers, twinkling lights in all the shops. And best of all - the bus arrived just as we did! I LOVE that.

Hazel came back for a cuppa a glass of wine, and then as soon as she went home, we got into our PJs - it was dark, but it was only about 6.30! Felt much later...
