DJ Play A Christmas Song

As I wanted the house looking tidy for Christmas, I needed to do something with the ironing pile. Option A was to hide it until the New Year. Option B was to man up and get it done. With Johnny Walker’s Sounds of the 70s blasting out, it wasn’t such a hardship as he was playing all Christmas songs on his show this afternoon. A surprising number of Xmas number ones were not Christmas related - Benny Hill and “Ernie - (The Fastest Milkman In The West)” being one of them. I was informed by Mrs C that knowing all the words to “Ernie” is not something to be proud of. But I am.
Nice to hear Noddy Holder on the show, celebrating his survival of cancer and telling the story of “Merry Xmas Everybody” or, as he puts it, his “nice little pension fund”.
Last night’s gig went well, despite James suddenly launching into a couple of numbers we hadn’t played for about eight months. Amazing how much you can remember if you don’t think too hard about it, though there were definitely times when we (okay, mainly me) were playing “all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order”!
We were asked to play a few Christmas songs, but we don’t actually do any of them. The crowd did get a bit excited though when, in response to their requests, we said we’d play a 1970s Christmas Number One. Which we did. I just don’t think they were expecting “Another Brick In The Wall” by Pink Floyd. But it was number one at Christmas in 1979, so we were technically accurate in our description!
Last minute shopping in M&S this morning. We went in for milk and bread and came out with a full shopping bag. An awful lot of stuff had been “yellow stickered” because they’ll be closed for two days, so we pounced on anything freezable to put away for when Panto starts and quick meals are required.
An evening of Christmas telly now before (hopefully) a very welcome early night. It was 2am after Fridays gig and 3am after last nights - anything before midnight tonight will do just fine.
