A Swell Show

The word massive appears in every newscast. They said the waves could go to 25 or 30 feet, and they did!! It was hard to envision what that would look like when we started out, but then we didn’t have to imagine the height because there it was right in front of us (and behind us as well—we heard a mighty noise that included the sound of sticks and rocks hitting the pavement; when we spun around there was Extra #2, an absolute wall of water that hit the ground right where we’d been standing moments before). We weren’t in danger of being swept out to sea, but we could have gotten very wet, not to mention bopped on the head by a flying 2x4. It was a most spectacular walk. More and more people and cars began to accumulate at the same time the city workers were trying to close off certain parts of the roads. A couple of the beaches and the main wharf were already off limits. It wasn’t so much the storm, but the crazy high tide and gigantic waves.
