The Pear Tree, Again
It was a calm day until about three o’clock, when it began to rain again and then the power went out. Late enough in the afternoon to need light to read, so a kind of listless doziness filled a couple hours til things returned to normal. I still feel displaced somehow, confused and out of sorts. Although I’ve blipped the electric pear tree before, I’ve never captured the additional ornament of the neighbor’s tv screen. Usually there’s sports on over there, but this looks like a game show.
There’s been a lot of storm damage in our coastal towns. Streets and buildings flooded, debris on the beaches, trees down, roads closed—many of the news pictures seem identical to those featured last year. The low-lying areas will always be vulnerable, but it’s sad to see the same folks struggling yet again.
