Grand day out
Jack and Marianna are away for a couple of days, with Simone. M is delivering a two day training course for teachers, near Bristol, and Jack's there to look after Simone in between breast-feeding sessions. Although Simone is gradually building up to eating quite a mixed diet, she's still young enough to need breast milk to be the core of her intake. Fortunately they have friends in Bristol, who have a toddler, so they'll be staying in a flat that's already geared-up for childcare.
So that left Yannis and Liana looking after Frieda. We took the opportunity to fix up a day out together, to Cannon Hall Farm near Barnsley. I've posted images from there before, as Luca and Eben love it. There are excellent indoor and outdoor playgrounds, as well as all the farm animals and related displays/tractor rides/ferret races etc. It's a big 'visitor attraction', but is designed really well to accommodate a lot of people without it all getting too hectic.
We had a great time. The star attraction for Frieda was the indoor soft play area, as we knew it would be. Liana and I joined her for a while, clambering about the high, padded structures and slithering down steep slides (big intake of breath at first from both of us, about the slides: how well will my back survive this? All was fine, fortunately). After a while Frieda got into playing with a slightly older girl, and only needed us to be intermittent spectators.
We had lunch in the adjoining cafe, and headed home in the early afternoon. Frieda was fast asleep after the first five minutes in the car.
