First Cask
Today's the day ......................... for an investment
Will's love affair with Scottish malt whisky began many years ago when he was a geology undergraduate at Aberdeen University. His year group were all away on the last fieldtrip before their final exams - which seemed to cover quite a bit of the main malt whisky producing parts of the Scottish Highlands and Islands.
Now, back then when students were in receipt of grants (rather than loans), it was quite normal for geology students to stay in hotels at the end of a hard-working day in the field and it was in the often well-stocked hotel bar that Will and his good mate Ken, found themselves at some point in the evening. They had an article from a magazine, all about Scottish Malts and the difference between them. This became the basis for some particular research(!) that has resulted in a huge appreciation of and a continuing quest to discover more about, the malt whiskies of Scotland.
He has gathered quite a good collection of his own over the years, including this one that has now reached the grand age of 50 years since it was distilled back in 1973. He tells me that it is now worth a four-figure sum, although I'm sure the chances of him parting with it after all this time are pretty low.
The question to be asked though is, will he ever open it and have a wee dram himself either .....................?!
