Views of my world

Memories

We took a walk down memory lane today, well actually it was Byres Road, but we had a lovely afternoon talking about "the old days" (in the children's terms that's 2003-2005).

We started in the Bead Company as I needed more beads to finish the weaving project I was working on and, just like the old days, Freya had to have some too to make herself some bracelets, Noah however has matured to the stent that he could admire the dragon pendants without having to actually buy one (and then never wear it). We wandered down some side streets chatting about my mum and dad and marvelling at the fact that none of us would have been here had they not got married and lived in the west end.

We went into a second hand music shop, the kind with actual vinyl, CDs and VHS and the children made some old school purchases to rip ino their iTunes libraries - the Smiths, joy Division and early Arctic Monkeys for Freya and Tenacious D for Noah.

We met up with Carlos after his eye test and went to Crepe A Croissant for a bite to eat at the children's insistence. It used to be a huge treat to go there for a gooey chocolatey crepe and while Carlos and I had proper lunch fayre they gorged on goo. We wandered over to the Botanics and let the children have a quick shot in the twirly park which used to be their favourite, they had a go on the old kit which hasn't changed but quickly felt out of place as the park filled up with 3 and 4 year olds.

Last stop was to be Ruthven Mews for a mooch about the antiques shops so we crossed Byres Road to get to our destination when we literally walked into a dear friend of ours who we haven't seen for nearly 4 years! Hope went to art school with my mum but we haven't seen her much since we moved to Gourock despite lots of attempts to make contact. Turns out she's moved house so I took her new details and we'll meet up in the holidays. It was such a surprise to see her and so serendipitous as we would have missed her had we done anything differently.

The antiques were much admired but none were purchased, Freya did get another vintage dress though and Noah got some comic books so we all went home tired but happy. A spot of weaving and evening with Marisol and John finished the day off perfectly.
