Eel Pie Island Museum - Membership card

Today it was -5C with bright sun when I got up so although chilly it was nice to go  to 8.30 Pilates class .

Later I went with a friend to the EelPie Island museum in Twickenham. This was only set up in 2015 and I did not realise it was so big inside with lots of interesting artefacts from the last three centuries. Although I knew it had a popular Music scene in the 1960’s ( Rock and Jazz- The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, Acker Bilk etc played there) I was not fully aware of the huge role shipyards there played in building and maintaining boats when boats were the main method of transport for goods and people on the Thames before trains and cars. There is also a section about Trevor Bayliss ( inventor of the wind-up radio) who lived and worked there until 2018. It’s only £4 to go in and £6 for a years membership…so I will visit again as too much to take in on one visit. The volunteers were extremely knowledgeable and gave a good intro.

The extra is a view from the Twickenham Riverside looking towards the island and some of the boatyards which are still working today,
