The plum thief
This bird is known as a Pukeko in NZ and is very much part of the scenery. Originally from Australia they are now in many parts of the Pacific where they are commonly known as purple swamphens. I watched this one cross backwards and forwards across the road to a wild plum tree where it helped itself and took some back for its 5 chicks. In the end, tiring of this the whole family crossed the road to gorge on plums. I then saw a couple of ducks help themselves to some plums.
PS check out the size of their feet!
