Lerrick UHA Embraces 21st Century
A beautiful calm and sunny day, hardly a cloud in the sky. Gales picked up this evening, clear skies.
Another early shift in the airport. A mix of check-in desk and meeting and boarding flights. Most flights have been quiet, and mostly on time. Picked up Laura this evening, and we headed into Lerwick. Back to Laura's for a cuppa to warm up. Feet up now.
Lerwick's biggest day of the year has arrived once again, and what a day they've had to celebrate with. Last year women were allowed into Lerwick Up Helly Aa squads for the first time, this year another big movement, women and girls in the Jarl Squad, joining the male Vikings. I'm so glad to see they've finally embraced the 21st century, and they looked fantastic too. Hopefully this will soon become the norm. Sadly not the clearest of photo, but a historical moment in the main procession. Lovely smiles, King Harald Street, Lerwick.
