Diary of an Edinburgher

DAY TWENTY THREE (Adelaide/Perth)

We checked out of our apart-hotel about 9am, left our suitcases with them, and went to visit the famous Central Markets. They are right by us, but they've been closed for Australia Day long weekend, so today was the first chance to visit them. They were extensive. Full of absolutely everything. We found a cafe where the girls deposited me and went off for a browse. I was happy with my coffee and just watching everyone. When the others came back we all had a further wander round, and found the best place for breakfast.

A further browse, followed by the free bus round the city. It takes about an hour, and we still had plenty of time to get to the airport for the afternoon flight. I love that free bus - what a good service. It goes past the University, Art Gallery, Zoo, Oval, as well as many of the vast parks and CBD. We alighted back at the Markets and went to collect our bags and head to the airport - a mere 15 minutes!

Once again, Gill got us in to the Business Class Lounge, although they did say (again) that she was only allowed one other person, but then relented. And I didn't forget my umbrella going through security this time. Nice security people too - the woman asked if I could take my shoes off, but I wasn't enthusiastic, so she said OK then. I might try that trick at Edinburgh airport next time.

We had a cheeky glass of bubbly to celebrate an absolutely brilliant two weeks together. It has been such fun, and Gill is a great host and guide (and Business Class member...)

The flight was about two and a half hours, but we gained a couple of hours, so we weren't at all sure what time it was (is). But tomorrow we'll check out where we get the Rottnest ferry, and do the HOHO bus.

If you want to know what 39° feels like - it's like stepping into an oven when you leave air conditioning. Most unpleasant. We took a wee walk this evening, but soon retreated back to the hotel with a Magnum.
