Le Pain
The exciting event of today would have to be getting a real baguette for lunch, baked that morning, thanks to the Tuckers. Now this came about from a conversation we had had with them lamenting the fact that the boulangerie was too far for us to cycle to it every day to get fresh bread, so we usually just made do with whatever we had in the house. Lo and behold, they turn up at our door at 8.30am with a hot baguette, eschewing all offers of payment. Not going to lie, it was an awesome lunch! Oh gosh, the things that are now exciting to me living in the countryside the city girl's going slightly doolally...
Unfortunately today was also a day of useless problems. Another customer asked us for the directions to the supermarket (written clearly on the information sheet) and then declared to our entire family and friends that we knew "nothing" when we couldn't give him the exact directions to said supermarket. I think it is key to mention here that we have only gone to that supermarket twice ourselves, and don't have a car or anything to be able to go on a whim. So they will probably have been to that supermarket more times than we will the entire season before the end of the week! An interesting ordeal of putting a barbeque together with only a screwdriver was next on the agenda. This, of course, had to be with an audience of customers who started shouting across tips to what to do. Not what you need! This finished barbeque was then delivered to the customer who had discovered our operatic singing from yesterday...so he then got to witness said barbeque disintegrating at the bottom on its journey down to him, followed by me fixing it and Jen going to look for washers and bolts on the road. Their impression of us was probably heightened further when we delivered two sets of lighter fluid and cubes along with the charcoal another customer had left as we had not checked inside the bag to see if there was anything else in there. I really hope that they don't think we are too mental.
Luckily the rest of the day went smoothly. Well, when you're only sunbathing in the garden with a book you hope nothing will go wrong! The evening involved a quick visit to the beach and a long walk along it, with a looming sunset slowly appearing on the horizon. Pretty awesome, especially now the sea is warmish enough to walk in.
