A Day Spent in the Kitchen
I had hardly gotten out of bed when my mother called. She’d been up since 3:00 am dreading the call. She has decided not to go to WV with us tomorrow. I had to promise her I was not upset (and I wasn’t). I can understand her reluctance. She enjoys being in her house where everything is familiar. My sister and I simply hate leaving her alone when we take off for an adventure. She assured me she would be fine. Now that I’d not be going down to pick her up this afternoon, that call gave me an unexpected half day to finish getting ready. I did not get outside for a minute. I cooked sausage for my breakfast casserole. Then I experimented with making orange scones by following two separate recipes. They turned out light and fluffy. My last baking task was making my sister’s favorite Christmas cookie, spritz wreaths. But I was in the kitchen all day when you add prep, shaping, baking, cooling and clean up. Now I hope everyone enjoys my efforts; I think they will. I dusted the house while each batch baked. Hubby vacuumed and helped with laundry. He went to get my meds and the few last minute perishable groceries we’ll need before Saturday. I have to gather everything in the refrigerator and freezer so it will be easy to transfer stuff to coolers in the morning. We’ll remake the bed and the house will be ready for Chase. Hubby is treating me to dinner with the gift card he won at the Italian fundraiser dinner we attended. It will feel good to be out of the kitchen. Sending wishes for a quiet evening at your end. Stay safe. Thanks for stopping by. "Baking is done out of love, to share with family and friends, to see them smile." ― Anna Olson
