Concours de soupe
The village social club organised a soup competition this evening. It was well attended -- eight different mystery soups, and 30 people to taste them. Those of us who'd made soup weren't allowed to vote, but we did get to taste them all. It's quite filling eating eight bowls of soup, even if they are small -- I shared some of S's. I made my bouillabaisse-style celeriac soup -- most of the soups were similarly robust, but my favourite was Isabelle's saffron soup, a light and delicate base of leek and potato flavoured with white wine, lemon, saffron and cumin. The runaway winner was a very traditional and substantial soupe au pistou, but Isabelle came third.
Afterwards there were aperos, of course, and all the participants got a bottle of wine. The apero was outside ... the weather was certainly better than yesterday, but we didn't linger too long!
