Eastre 1924
Today's the day ..................... for Scottish Artists
Having done some research recently on the Scottish Colourist, John Duncan Fergusson - the prospect of a special exhibition celebrating 150 years since his birth at the Glasgow Auctioneers, Lyon & Turnbull - was too exciting an opportunity to miss. So that's where Will and I took ourselves off to today on the train.
It was not a large exhibition but there were some real gems of his work on display - like the above polished brass cast of his sculpture of the head of Eastre, the Saxon goddess of Spring. In extras are his oil paintings of Jean Maconochie (c1902) and his Lady in Black (c1925).
Then, to round things off, we went to the wonderful Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to see their collection of paintings by the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish Colourists. A real day of Scottish artists and their works of art ...............
