The missing Blip.
When we first began planning our jaunt, the inspiration came from the Sound Mirror at Kilnsea on the coast East of Hull. I had both spotted it on a map a few years earlier and not long after seen it pop up somewhere on YouTube.
Up close in an open space they have quite an eerie quality. The one at Kilnsea I was going to cycle to a couple of years ago but with unpredictable weather, opted to ride some of the Leeds Liverpool Canal instead which was fun.
Anyway, so in talking about this to Ms Arell she discovered that there were quite a few more up and down the east coast and as I had adopted Biscuit by this stage, we began to hatch a plan to visit some. As this week's output may hint at, the Sound Mirrors theme became Sound Mirrors Etc! with lots of diverse things to see but we may return at some point to see more of the mirrors that the motorcycles weren't ideal for getting to.
These three at Denge reside in a wetland nature reserve a few hundred yards in from the sea, and the area plays host to migrating birds so is protected. There is a swing footbridge keeping us humans away except for on rare visitors days but we got close enough to snap some pictures and appreciate them from a short distance.
Two are dishes - the smallest in the centre being closest in size to Kilnsea at 6 metres across - and the curved wall on the far left being a comparatively gargantuan 60 metres. I guess in that regard there is a comparison to be drawn with the Hovercraft Museums exhibits!
