Anne Lister birthday celebrations
Backblip for Wednesday 3/4. Our choir had been invited to sing at the Anne Lister (Gentleman Jack fame) birthday event in the Piece Hall in Halifax (her 233rd birthday). People come from all over the world to celebrate the event each year, yet I had never been aware of it before. A lady I used to work with at Sunwin Travel/Tours recently joined one of the branches of our choir - so good to see her - we could have talked for England! We have kept in touch online, but it is the first time we have met up face to face for 25 years!! We are now going to meet up more in person as we don't live too far away from each other. There were
speeches, then the Anne Lister choir supported by the Halifax Choral Society sang Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus followed by Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. The Piece Hall bell rang and as we started to sing our set many in the crowd moved to the Anne Lister sculpture "Contemplation' to lay flowers as seen in the extra. Halfway through our set the heavens opened and we were soaked, but we kept on going and the crowd stayed to listen. Off for a warming coffee after the event and an attempt to dry out as I had discovered that my coat was not fully waterproof :-0)). Back up have a look around the Piece Hall shops then back home to change and meet up with friends in the pub for 3 & go. A good day.
