Today was quite a busy work day.
After breakfast, we broke up into our OST groups and got to work. My Community Action group did some great work, and I'm so lucky that we're such a cohesive and diligent group. We made a list of all the things that needed to be fixed on the GSA website, and then we listed our ideas to fix them. We (really Dorinda) sketched out our vision for the homepage and the calendar page. It's going to look AWESOME.
Lunch break and then off to the auditorium. We learned all about bats and they creep me out a little less now.
After our time in the auditorium, we split up into our workshops. I went to a presentation about the Navajo Nation and their beliefs. It was really informative and interesting. After that I went to the TV studio to be filmed for Climate Change Live! (a little show that's being put together to educate children about climate change). It was really weird being filmed, but I think it went pretty well.
We had our first little bit of free time this afternoon. We were instructed to take some time to explore the NCTC campus and connect with the nature that we've been surrounded by all week. I took the time to walk up some hill to some circle of benches. I walked around barefoot so crunchy) and just enjoyed listening to the sounds of the birds and bugs around me and feeling the grass between my toes. Sorry for being so weird there, but it was such an amazing feeling. It was also pretty funny seeing the other kids just wandering around the campus alone.
Tonight's speakers were Anne and Derek Bedarf. They spoke about composting and sustainability at large music festivals. It was really cool to hear about the innovative solutions they came up with to manage the huge amounts of waste produced at music festivals.
Travis Book from The Infamous Stringdusters played some beautiful songs for us in the Roosevelt Room. I love being in that room because it makes everything feel so intimate, We're not trapped behind desks and limited to chairs; we can sit on couches, lie on the floor, or just walk around the room. He is such a talented musician and I highly recommend that you listen to his band.
I don't know how I'm still going at the pace I am.
