Langdale Nature Trail

We’re now into May, and only three more days to go until the wedding. The first guest has arrived, all the way from America, and is staying on site with our soon-to-be daughter-in-law, with whom she is best of friends.

We met her this morning for the first time when the pair of them arrived at our lodge with boxes of miniature bottles of spirits from the local distillery, which is owned by the company who are hosting the wedding reception in a hayloft/barn further down the valley. It’s my job to attach little decorative labels that I’ve printed with the wedding theme design, using coloured ribbon which complements the bride’s bouquet. They are table gifts for the guests.

This afternoon Two Gun Tess went out for a stroll in glorious sunshine, leaving Smithers at the lodge having a rest. I couldn’t believe how hot it was, having not been able to get myself properly warm for the first two days of our holiday. At the moment the weather forecast for Saturday is for light showers and much less warm than today, but there’s still time for that to change (says she, hopefully).

My walk took me to the nature trail owned by our timeshare, a few hundreds yards out of Elterwater village and overlooking Elter Water (the lake, not the village). The bluebells were stunning, but I always find it hard to do them justice. I was delighted to see a wren flitting about, but sadly she didn’t stay still long enough for me to get a decent shot.

A short while later I was very happy to see Smithers coming to join me as I made my way back to the lodge from the nature trail.
