On An Island
It’s been a month since I had the bike MOT’d and today is the first chance I’ve had to take it out. Either I’ve been busy doing something else or the weather has been bad. It wasn’t exactly cracking the flags today, but at least it was dry and not too cold. I went through to Barrow to meet Stu for a coffee and then took the scenic coast road home.
As I had plenty of time in hand, I made a slight detour, down to Rampside and over the causeway, to Roa Island (is it technically still an island if it’s attached to the mainland by a causeway?) where I rode to the end and parked up by the lifeboat station. A fine view of Piel Island but, as that island can only be reached by a 15 minute ferry crossing - and the ferry wasn’t running until this afternoon - further exploration will have to wait for another day.
It was a good ride out, albeit I was a bit chilly by the time I got home. One thing I did discover was that I really don’t need a bigger or faster bike. I opened it up briefly on the by-pass but quickly decided I am no longer cut out for those sort of shenanigans! I’ll stick to pootling around on the back roads where - in the twisty bits - you can have just as much fun at 30mph.
All we need now is some more dry/nice weather so I can get out and about on the bike more often than I managed last year.
