Aquedotto Romano
A hiking day. We walked along an ancient Roman aqueduct from just outside Urbiche Gate of Spello’s medieval walls to the very small medieval town of Collepino, just above the springs that were probably the aqueducts water source. The trail meanders through olive groves and a forest of elm and oak trees before the steep climb up to Collepino. Wildflowers were everywhere! Blankets of red poppies with an occaisional surprise of a few tall purple ones. We discovered ‘buried’ treasure of at least a half dozen different Orchid species popping through the general greenery. When we weren’t looking down at the flora, we were admiring the panoramic views of Spello and the valley below. Featured foto: Roman Aqueduct arches.
