Tim and the Osprey

Today's the day ..................... to birdwatch

We've had a lovely day today with Tim and Dominic - made all the better by lots of warm sunshine and blue skies.

We had a fine lunch at Gather @ Laggan, near Gatehouse of Fleet where the view down to the Solway Coast was magnificent.  We paid a visit to the Mill at Gatehouse, where the chances of seeing a kingfisher on the river are apparently quite high.  We were not successful in that unfortunately - but there were plenty of other birds to see, and a very good bookshop to keep Will amused.

Then we went to see the ospreys at Threave Castle Nature Reserve.  It's always a lovely place to be - but specially so today in the late afternoon sunshine.  Grandson Dominic is a very keen birdwatcher, with birds of prey high up on his list of favourites.  So to see the ospreys - and the peregrine falcons nesting high up on the walls of the ruined castle, ticked several boxes.

I let him have a go with my camera and to my amazement, he managed to take the shot in extras.  I think it's a warbler of some sort - perhaps a sedge warbler? - but it involved mastering the zoom function and the focus on an ageing camera where everything takes its time to work!

Very impressive .........................!
