Tangly corner
It’s getting to the end of no mow May. I will tidy up a bit, I think. There is a little self-seeded hazel sapling in the corner, which needs some encouragement and space. The foxgloves continue to be lovely, and the next door rose which flowers so profusely is just getting started. I’ve noticed recently that garden visitors, especially tits, are going to the plants more than the feeders. Presumably because there’s aphids and other insects. Better to feed their babies juicy stuff (ick) rather than the seeds I give them.
I went on a very rare shopping expedition today - needing a few things for my upcoming holiday. It went pretty well - I got a new waterproof jacket, some sandals, a nice shirt, and best of all a copy of the just published Long Island - Colm Toibin - the sequel to Brooklyn, which I loved so much. I don’t normally buy hardbacks but this is an exception. When I got to Waterstones they had a table by the entrance just for this one book, and it was looking pretty empty, so clearly I’m not the only one excited to read it. Though I’m worried it’s going to be awful sad.
