A Man Of The People
I went to bed very early last night as I'd had a splitting headache for couple of hours but thankfully I managed to sleep for 12 hours straight through until 7 am and I felt so much better.
After a strong coffee, a book reading session, an earlyish run down to our local village and back and a quick breakfast I felt suitably refreshed, full of the joys of late Spring, certainly helped by the return of warm and sunny conditions, and ready for a micro trip.
We decided upon the relatively short drive to the market town of Tenterden and by the time we had parked the car it was time for lunch. On this occasion we thought we should try frequenting an establishment we haven't been to before and chose the rather curiously named This Ancient Boro - a tapas and ale bar. Neither of us are ale drinkers but thankfully, for heathens like us, they also had a lager on tap. So we combined our pints with three different small plates of tapas, all of which were delicious.
After our lunch we thought we should take a stroll and I was determined to try and attempt a street shot. We were walking along the High Street when I was fascinated by the morose looking guy with the long grey hair (who I thought looked a bit like James May of Top Gear fame gone to seed!) standing outside a shop on the opposite side of the road. He just seemed so utterly oblivious to everyone around him, who were happily going about their business on such a lovely day whilst he resolutely maintained his somewhat miserable countenance - so I've gone for an ironic title! :-)
We still found time for a quick dip into the local bookshop - and yes I did add yet another tome to my growing pile of as yet unread books - and some essentials for Friday night or to be more precise a raspberry and passion fruit cheesecake and a bottle of wine!
We took the scenic route back home via Pluckley and Smarden which included a pit stop at the latter for a soft drink at a pub called The Bell with a glorious garden.
The evening was a telly double bill of an episode of the Top Of The Pops from 1996 and Kirsty and Phil on Location, Location, Location accompanied by fish and chips followed by the aforementioned raspberry and passion fruit cheesecake and a couple of glasses of wine. A lovely day! :-)
