Just Jane
M and I went to the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre today. Home to the Lancaster ‘Just Jane’. It’s no longer flying but takes paying visitors for taxiing rides around the apron and field beyond. It’s very expensive, so we just watched the procedure, the sound of the Merlin engines was fabulous.
We then spent the rest of the afternoon finding out more about those brave young men from 57 and 630 squadrons who were based here during WWII. Over 1100 aircrew from those two squadrons alone gave their lives during the war.
This evening we’re having dinner at The Petwood Hotel, home of 617 squadron where they moved to from Scampton after the Dambusters Raid.
A humbling day.
