Wind Sculpture

After Pilates and a quick trip to the allotment I went to Kensington Gardens to the Serpentine Galleries to see the latest exhibitions and the newly erected pavilion.

The south gallery has an exhibition by the Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare which includes this piece..Wind Sculpture in Bronze IV hand painted in turquoise, yellow and orange Dutch wax pattern. There were also scaled down copies of sculptures painted eg Winston Churchill from Parliament square in the Dutch wax patterns too. Also ‘Sanctuary City’ scaled down replicas of historic buildings  with lights inside …displayed in a dark room. Plus several other types of work. I found it really interesting. Outside is the new pavilion in five sections. This is now a tradition that there is a different pavilion each summer. See extra which shows part of it…the orange is a sort of cage that children 5-16 can play in!
The North Gallery has an exhibition by American feminist artist   Judy  Chicago . A variety of works dating from the 1970’s . One of her most noted works is ‘The Dinner Party’. Not so keen on her work!

After this I went to a nice restaurant in Wigmore Street with husband and friend . It was so busy everywhere with tourists and the noisy rickshaws outside Selfridges. I realised I had not been to this area since last Christmas!
I took the bus back to Waterloo as I like looking at all the buildings from the top deck. Lots of Pride banners all the way down Regent Street and this weekend there seems to be a Yoga festival on in Trafalgar Square.
