A New Macro Lens Day

I'd been debating whether to swap my beloved Canon  EF 100mm L macro lens for the RF version for a while. However, a good sale deal from that local(ish) retailer based in West Sussex, plus trade in on the old one, finally made my mind up.  Today I went to pick it up and headed to nearby Nymans gardens to try it out.

This is one of the first shots taken, and the detail is impressive, even over the old lens which was extremely good. The lens also feels lighter and more balanced on my R6, despite being a bigger and heavier lens on paper - but of course I no longer need the adapter.

Despite it being a rather dull and breezy day I am very pleased with the shots I took and look forward to using it going forward.

As to the subject, the flower is an astrantia in a lovely soft white and pink, and was being "worked over" by this unusual fly. The eyes suggest a hoverfly, however, you can't see from this angle but it has a flat orange abdomen with a head to tail black stripe rather than the normal bee/wasp type markings. I haven't been able to find a similar image on the internet. Any suggestions welcome!
