If you can't beat them...

Dunnock ( Prunella modularis )

A bird of many names.  As kids we called it a "Blue Dykie" because of the lovely blue of the eggs,  Then it was commonly known in English as a Hedge Sparrow, when actually it is an Accentor, the only UK Accentor I think.  Now it is commonly known as a Dunnock.

I am pleased to have got this shot as normally they are close to the ground and keep very much to cover.  However at this time of the year the males can be seen sitting on a high perch "song posting".  That is singing long and loud to proclaim their territory and attract a mate.  Or in the case of Dunnocks mates not mate.  Both sexes take many partners during the breeding season.  In birds a male having many mates is not uncommon but females having more than a single mate is much rarer.
