Kythera harbour church

A slightly cooler day with fairly high winds. We decided to take a look at a nearby church and then do the walk to the windmill again. We set off on the walk noting where we had gone wrong before ie by the boat which distracted us. It was in this area that we saw a group of bee hives. One lady who had been visiting the island had told us that the honey here is highly prized and is very aromatic with thyme as the bees feed on the abundant thyme bushes around here. Apparently it is very difficult to get hold of when the honey is harvested it sells out very quickly. We made a slight detour to see the beach around the headland but didn’t get very far as the path was too steep for me and my husband could only see rocks when he walked a little further. We retraced our steps and headed to the windmill. Not surprisingly it was very windy here.

Taking the trail back down to the working harbour we wandered around the boats and then walked up the small church at the entrance to the harbour ie the main image. By now it was getting hot and the beach was fairly lively with children and families enjoying themselves. It’s a Friday and schools have broken up. We had lunch and then returned to the hotel.

We had our last evening drink and dinner with our friends who are returning home tomorrow. A very enjoyable meal and time. As it was still windy it helped us all climb back up to the hotel.
