Uluṟu
Later: Solid Rock was the first song title that came to mind for today’s challenge.
We were up at 5 to be here before sunrise - a 15km drive in darkness and a walk in the pre-dawn light to pick a spot to watch the changing colours of the rock. Later we did a section around the base before meeting our Pitjantjatjara guide and her translator for an unexpectedly moving cultural walk.
I realised when I saw clap sticks on display in the cultural centre afterwards that this tour retraces an earlier itinerary. As a surly 14-year-old I came here on a three-week camping trip with my mother. I now have the clap sticks I didn’t remember her buying.
Thanks for hosting RockArea.
