Canal- side cottage
Today we gave ourselves time off from the sorting out, and completed two more sections of the London Loop long distance footpath. Two months ago we walked section 11. Today,we did sections 12 and 13,plus a little bit of section 14. We walked from my Mum's house to Northwood station, where we caught a bus to Uxbridge and then walked back to her home, a distance of about 10 miles. The first half was mostly along the Grand Union canal. My blip show a cottage by Blackjacks lock. It was very quiet apart from birdsong . We even heard a cuckoo. We stopped for lunch at the Coy Carp at Coppermills where there used to be a water powered mill for making copper sheeting. Then the route took us away from the canal, and through woodland and rolling Hertfordshire fields. (See extra)
The London Loop very conveniently almost passes my Mum's door, so we finished at the closest point, and walked back to her house.
(All in all we walked about 12 miles today.)
Early on in our walk, we discovered that a new viaduct is being constructed to carry HS2, which crosses both the canal and the river Colne. When complete it will be the longest railway bridge in the UK at 3.4 km long. I'm including a photo as as an extra. Colne Valley Viaduct.
Now pleased, but tired, from our excursion, hence delayed posting, and lack of commenting! Sorry!
