Eye to Eye

Today's the day . . . . . . . . for Sir Henry Raeburn

Kirkcudbright Galleries are delighted to present a new summer exhibition entitled ‘Eye to Eye: Sir Henry Raeburn’s Portraits' - that will run from 29 June until 29 September 2024.

Sir Henry Raeburn (1756-1823), widely recognised as Scotland’s foremost and finest portrait painter, takes his place in the pantheon of the very best in the acclaimed tradition of British portraiture.  His portraits are as admired as those by Allan Ramsay, Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, George Romney, and Thomas Lawrence.

I have put my name forward to be one of the guides to the exhibition, giving a brief tour for groups that come to visit.  Today we had a session with the Exhibition Curator, Amanda Herries, to give us some training into what she hopes the paintings on display will communicate to the visitor.

It's a wonderful exhibition - and a real feather in the cap for Kirkcudbright Gallery.  If you get the chance do come and see it ...........................
