Ring out the bells
An interesting looking church in the tiny commune of Loubès-Bernac. It is not far from us, but the road to it climbed up though forestry and out into the open countryside - lots of crops, sunflowers and vines. We were high up with expansive views. Obviously a popular a walking area with many footpaths marked.
I was intrigued by the church but just then the huge bell that you can just see started clanging very loudly and we knew it was noon and time to eat. We had been told about En Toute Simplicité by the owners of our house and we thought we would try it out. We were nearly disappointed though as it is a place that needs prior booking, not because it is very busy but so the owner/chef and his wife can plan the food. We should have booked and we were told so, but they said it was okay this time.
They do a lunchtime set menu, with very little choice - there is no actual menu to look at, you are told what will be served. We had a salad starter, perfectly cooked steaks in peppercorn sauce and home-made frîtes, cheese and dessert (we chose crème brûlèe), wine and water and bread and coffee were all included - for 18.50€ each. Simple food, cooked perfectly and great value.
Perfect for our last day . . . and of course we are celebrating. The start of a new era. Ring out the bells.
