Assemblying
Day one of the conference proper and we were assembled by 8/15am!! The conference was held in the Crescent, newly restored and originally built by the Duke of Devonshire for his delight when he was taking the waters. We were in the assembly rooms which had the most incredible ceiling and columns. Awful acoustics though and the first speakers struggled until a microphone was produced. A very global conference with speakers from: England, Estonia, Finland, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Netherlands, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, US and Wales.
The Nigerians looked the most glamorous, the Spanish man spoke the fastest, the Lithuanian woman included some delightful short videos of elderly women casting charms and I was shocked to learn that the 400 wells in Ibiza had dried up due to tourism.
As I staggered out after a very full day, Will had now arrived, driven all the way up from Bristol to see me. We dined out on large pizzas.
And then we heard that my brother had come down with something horrible - not Covid but I awaited my fate somewhat nervously.
