Crovie
It was a really bright and sunny morning, which was just what we needed. The tide was out so TT and I walked along to Crovie and enjoyed the sunshine. It was quite breezy, but we had the wind at our backs. When we got to the end of the line, we had to turn around and walk straight into the wind, that was less pleasant. Instead of coming back along the shore path, we walked up the hill and walked around the cliff path – which was even more expose. The views were great though.
Our first stop today was Pennan,, not all that far away. It was just lovely and very sheltered from the wind, just warm and peaceful. There’s not much to Pennan, but we had a wee wander and watched a couple of blokes skimming stones. One was really good, the other less so. We then continued on our way to Fraserburgh along the coast road, stopping to pick up some provisions for lunch. We continued down the road, looking for a likely spot for our picnic. We stopped at St Combs, right by the beach, but the tide was right in and there wasn’t very much beach. I did go ourt to explore, but the lack of beach made that tricky. We continued on our way and stopped at Loch of Strathbeg nature reserve. We were the only people there and so we spent ages bird watching, which was just great as there were lots of different birds to spot. My favourite was the lapwings, something that used to be quite common, but you very rarely see nowadays. We had a wee wander outside, but everything was very wet and muddy, so we didn’t go far.
On our way home we picked up pizzas for tea. Once home, I took BB out for a walk along the beach and later, in honour of visiting Pennan we watched Local Hero this evening – which is a great Scottish film.
This Crovie, with Pennan in the extra.
