My first cars!
Another day with lots of rain. I went for a swim and had a coffee afterwards with a friend.
As I knew it would be miserable weather I have touched up the paint in our cloakroom and also in the hall where Libby sometimes lies against the wall!
Lucky there is a roof at Wimbledon so I can watch the tennis and am also doing more of my Life Story book. A section about driving and cars. I do not have any good photos of my first cars but it was surprisingly easy to find some online on websites where the ( vintage) models are for sale ! I learnt to drive at 17 in a Hillman Imp and passed my test first time. My mother could not drive so my father was keen for me to drive asap to take her places and my parents had a Morris Oxford. My first car was a minivan that my parents bought me which I really liked and kept for many years. I even took it on a camping trip with two friends abroad one summer, through France and on to Spain too….it only broke down once! It did actually have windows and seats in the back too but it was this green colour so I painted it yellow. I remember selling it for £100 to a couple of chaps who were going to do a road trip to India….I often wondered how far they got.
My next car was a secondhand Triumph Spitfire Mk 3 which my friends were very impressed with. It went very well/fast compared to the minivan and it was great in the summer.
After this when I met my husband and we got married we had ‘sensible’ cars suitable for a family!
